Did you know that certain habits can trigger appendicitis? Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix or appendix, which is located on the lower right side of the abdomen. The appendix is a sac connected to the large intestine.
This condition causes you to experience abdominal pain near the navel which then moves down and to the right of the abdomen. Furthermore, this condition can worsen in a matter of hours, especially when you move, inhale, cough, or sneeze.

Do you rarely have a bowel movement? This habit can cause dirt to accumulate and harden. As a result, faeces can clog the appendix.
Over time, bacteria will grow in it, causing the appendix to become inflamed. Stool buildup can occur because you rarely eat fibrous foods or often hold bowel movements.

Rarely wash hands

Knowingly or not, rarely washing hands can cause germs or worms to survive there. If ingested, these germs and worms can cause gastrointestinal infections which can be dangerous.

Consuming food or drink carelessly

Another propensity that causes a ruptured appendix is eating food sources or beverages that need cleanliness. This food or drink may have been contaminated with germs.

A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives revealed that exposure to air pollution can increase the risk of appendicitis.
This is likely due to high levels of ozone, which makes you more susceptible to infection with bacteria and viruses. When infecting the body, bacteria or viruses can spread to the appendix, making it inflamed.
There is also a myth circulating that eating the seeds of certain fruits can also cause appendicitis. However, the fact is that most people who eat fruit seeds do not develop appendicitis.
Even so, you are advised not to eat fruit seeds that cannot be digested properly, such as apple seeds.

Appendicitis must be treated immediately. If left unchecked, this condition can get worse and potentially lead to death. The inflamed appendix can burst, allowing bacteria and dirt to enter the abdominal cavity. This condition can cause serious inflammation of the lining of the abdominal cavity, even spreading to other organs.

To treat appendicitis, the doctor will recommend appendectomy. However, if an abscess (pocket of pus) appears in the appendix, two procedures will be performed. First, remove pus and fluid from the abscess. Second, to remove the inflamed appendix.
Before the appendix is removed, you will be given antibiotics to fight the infection. Removal of the intestine is done with a tool called a laparoscope. If after surgery you have unusual symptoms, such as fever, persistent vomiting, vomiting blood, dizziness, severe abdominal pain, or pus discharge from the surgical scar, contact your doctor immediately.
The recovery process after appendectomy takes about 2-3 weeks. Make sure you get enough rest for a speedy recovery.
